Meet Derek Rivera, one of our Class of 2025 graduates! During his time at EACS, Derek was an engineering major and a member of the EACS “Toro Tech” Robotics Team. This fall, he plans to attend Purdue University to study Mechanical Engineering. Read below to learn about his journey!

 

What are your plans after graduation? 

My plans after attending Purdue University are to join the Air Force as a commissioned officer.

 

What are you most excited about as you take this next step? 

What I’m looking forward to most in life after high school is getting the opportunity to go and see new places and meet new people.

 

How do you think your time at EACS helped prepare you for what’s next?

My time at EACS helped inspire me to pursue Engineering and prepared me for it by teaching me the fundamentals behind engineering.

 

Who or what has inspired you most on your journey so far?

The person who inspired me the most in my journey so far is Mr.Roberts, for teaching me engineering in an interactive way while also providing opportunities to pursue programs that relate to engineering.

 

What advice would you give to younger students who are still figuring out their path?

The advice that I would give to younger students is not to procrastinate during class and to try to do programs outside of school in order to build a network.
