High School Sports Update

News

Our Athletic Director, Mark Kikendall, has put together this presentation to address all sports related questions and updates. Please watch the video if you are interested in playing sports this school year at Esperanza Academy High School.

Thank you for your interest in the Athletic Program at Esperanza Academy. As a member school of the Philadelphia Public League, Esperanza’s Athletic Program operates under the governance of the Public League. The League has made the decision to move forward with the following model, which will allow all sports to take place in a condensed season during the Spring 2021 semester. The model is as follows:

Winter Sports: Girls Varsity Basketball, Boys Varsity Basketball, and Competitive Cheer, December 14 – February 13, (Playoffs to follow)

Early Spring (season 2): Varsity Cross Country and Girls Varsity Volleyball, February 1 – April 10, (Playoffs to follow)

Late Spring (season 3): Varsity Baseball and Varsity Softball, April 5 – May 29, (Playoffs to follow)

Please note:

  • The Public  League could elect to modify the model for sports this year in accordance with new information and state or city guidelines.
  • Esperanza will have a “Return to Play Plan” that is reviewed and approved by administration prior to the start of any school-organized athletic activities.
  • Esperanza’s “Return to Play Plan” will be published on our website and shared with families.
  • The athletic director will hold a meeting to discuss questions and concerns involving our athletics program prior to the start of athletic activities. Time, date, and location to be determined.

Additionally, your child is required to complete a PIAA Sports Physical, which can be found here. You and your child can complete section 1-4, and your doctor is responsible for completing section 6 and stamping it for validation. All PIAA Sport Physicals must be dated after 7/1/2020. Your child will also be receiving a Google Form via school email titled “Athletics Survey” where they will indicate which sport they may be interested in trying out for.

Thank you for your consideration in our Athletic Program,

Mark Kikendall, Athletic Director
